Tetanus
Statistics of the Disease:
* The death rate for untreated tetanus cases is estimated to
be higher than 50%.(52)
* The death rate for properly treated cases (unvaccinated) is
20%.(53
History of the vaccine:
* During all WWII, 12 cases of tetanus were reported by US forces. 33% were vaccinated.(54)
* In order to decrease severe reactions to the vaccine, it has been significantly "diluted", causing it to be clinically ineffective.(55)(56)
* A tetanus antitoxin is available which can be given after an injury.
Side Effects:
* Complications that have occurred after vaccination include: high fever, pain, recurrent abscess formation, inner ear nerve damage, demyelinating neuropathy, anaphylactic shock, and loss of consciousness.(57)
