Projects
Each year our club participates in multiple
ongoing and new projects to promote interest in gardening
and encourage improvements, beautification of our community.
Community
Rose Garden Duty
Initiated and maintained by Poway Valley Garden
Club at Lake Poway, this attractive garden also serves for
public-pruning demonstrations each January. Members volunteer
for duty bi-weekly throughout the year.
Members, here is a reminder when
it is your turn to volunteer. Once again, thank
you for making this garden so beautiful for our
community to enjoy!
Come and enjoy the roses...

Old
Poway Park's Nelson House Period Garden
This project was undertaken in 2004 when it
was noted that the existing garden needed refurbishing and
volunteer support for continuing maintenance. It represents
how a turn of the century garden may have looked. Enjoy the
garden...

Templars
Hall Garden
We are excited about on new project:
The Templars Hall Garden. Plans started in 2007 to provide
a native garden at the front entrance of Templars Hall. The
garden design was submitted to the City of Poway and planting
should begin in September 2007.

Flower
Donations
Members volunteer to provide fresh flower arrangements
to local libraries on a weekly basis throughout the year.
A special thank you to all members
who create these beautiful arrangements.

Garden
Festival at Old Poway Park
Saturday, April 8th 2006
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
In partnership with the City of Poway and in
conjunction with Poway's Earth/Arbor Day Celebration, we will
be showcasing our talents in a new and different way at our
1st PVGC Garden Festival featuring:
In
conjunction with Poway’s Earth/Arbor Day Event on April
8th, at the Old Poway Park, a Garden Festival will be presented
by the Poway Valley Garden Club. The 65 club members are from
Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, Ramona, and Escondido.
The club will showcase all its yearly projects, offer gardening
and floral arranging demonstrations, a children’s planting
area and a huge plant and floral arrangement sale.
The Templars Hall will be filled with informative displays
spotlighting the yearly projects of the club. One feature
will be the reproduction of the club’s gorgeous vignette
display from the December Nights event at Casa del Prado in
Balboa Park. A small mock flower show will have a sample of
horticulture entries, Flower Show designs, and a special exhibit
display. A cozy garden retreat in the center will offer a
place to sit and relax.
The tent will have demonstrations on worm farming,
starting cuttings and seeds, creating dish gardens and floral
designs; and all demonstrations will allow time for questions.
Floral designs, craft items, dish gardens and many plants
including herbs and vegetables will be available for purchase.
Outside the tent, there will
be a children’s activity area. The children will learn
how to care for and pot a plant that they then may take home.
A special bonus this year will be the presence of the Master
Gardener Association of San Diego. Four representatives will
be available to answers questions and to give free advice.
The Garden Festival will be in Old Poway Park at Midland Road
from 9 am–2 pm. Look for the large tent on Midland Road.
Come celebrate Earth Arbor Day on Saturday, April
8th! It’s all free!
Letter from our Garden Festival
Chairwoman...
The Festival was a huge success!!!
All the displays were fantastic. Mission accomplished and
we really did showcase what we do!
The sales of the plants, dish gardens,
crafts and misc. were more than we could have expected. All
the floral designs and fresh flowers were sold. The Children’s
planting area was organized and beautiful. Many kids walked
by with big smiles with their plants in hand. Although, the
turn out for the demos was limited, the demonstrators illustrated
their expertise areas superbly. The bonsai display was so
impressive and beautiful. Members with special expertise were
gladly giving out advice on how to care for plants. The club
really did “strut their stuff”. We should all
be proud of our success.
Although, there was a lot of hard work involved,
I will always remember this festival with good thoughts. Almost
all of our members participated. Smiles and laughter were
abundant throughout the three days. We all should feel proud
of what we give to our community. This festival was another
gift. Visitors, including a few community leaders were impressed
with our clubs involvement at this Earth/Arbor Day Event.
Thanks for all your creative work, hauling items you loaned,
donation of plants and time,
I am so proud of all of you and our club. Thank you.

Christmas
in the Park
Saturday,
December 9th, 2006 at Old Poway Park
Many many thanks to all of the members who worked
hard to make all the wonderful items to sell at the Christmas
in Old Poway Park. Their efforts were rewarded with lots of
sales and comradeship.
Barbara Camarillo did a marvelous
job of getting us a really good spot and filling up the tables.
It was a very enjoyable evening for those of us who attended
that night.

Saturday, December 10th,
2005 at Old Poway Park
To welcome Santa to Poway, the city sponsors
an event that allows local organizations to conduct sales
in the Carriage Turn area of Old Poway Park. Santa arrived
by train at 5:30 PM.
Twinkling colored lights, festively hung wreaths,
beautiful floral decor and our ideal location made our second
venture at Christmas In The Park a success. Besides offering
a variety of items made by the eight-member Crafter's group,
eight members (some doing double duty) created arrangements
and prepared plants for sale.

Our
booth was the largest and full of wonderful items to purchase.
Our fastest seller was our Santa hat, and we sold them off
our heads!
We had an abundance of flowers
so our face-painted-elf, Rosemary, was busy giving out holiday
wishes and flowers to children in the Park.
Thank you to all who participated!

December
Nights in Balboa Park
Friday &
Saturday December 1st & 2nd, 2006 Room 101 at Casa del
Prado
Once
again the Poway Valley Garden Club participated in San Diego
Floral Associations display. Our members decorated the set
entitled "Cherry Blossom", one of the festivals
around the world theme this year. All the props were loaned
to the set by our members. Nancy Cleaver made the gate and
the 2 screens herself!
The final results looked really
good, we had lots of fun doing it and nice comments from visitors.
It was a bit of a challenge - but we managed it.
Thank you to all members who participated
and shared their holiday spirit!
