Michael Shapiro has created sound effects and incidental music recordings for more than 500 stage productions, a hobby he began in college.As one reviewer recently noted, he is one of San Diego’s most prolific sound designers. Some of his latest credits include A View from the Bridge (Renaissance Theatre Company), Isn’t It Romantic (Poway Performing Arts Company), You Should be So Lucky (OnStage Playhouse), Lend Me a Tenor (Coronado Playhouse), Arsenic and Old Lace (Scripps Ranch Theatre), Ramshackle Inn (Patio Playhouse), Body Shop (Actors Alliance Play Festival), The Boys Next Door (Moonlight Stage Productions), and Lot’s Daughters (Diversionary Theatre). He has received several Associated Theatres (ACT) Aubrey awards for sound for individual shows and, in 1995, received the ACT Laura Smith award for his continuing service to San Diego area community theatres. He recently retired as a senior computer scientist from the Navy R&D center on Point Loma and taught part time in the computer science department at California State University San Marcos.
