Seals have returned to La Jolla and have reclaimed the Children's Pool. Should we kick them out? Should we let them be? This has been an enormous local controversy. Finally, the human residents of La Jolla have decided to let them stay.

What has resulted from this decision is a nearly continuous beach closure due to poor water quality in this region. So, visiting humans can't swim but they can observe these pinnipeds at fairly close range and imagine what our coastline may have been like before we evicted many of the previous residents.
