Fine Line Between Hope and Hopelessness
It's a business, they say, that's being regulated to death. With strict limits that are supposed to balance fish stocks, expensive boat safety regulations, difficulty in finding crew members not shy in the face of an uncertain future, plus the hazards of running a boat in treacherous waves and howling winds, it's amazing that people still do it. But they do. Some do it because it's all they know. Others do it because much of the time at sea is all their own. Others do it for the prospect of a big haul -- a good paycheck for a few week's work. They get the bug and they can't bring themselves to do anything else. (4.3.00) From the Eureka Times Standard.
