Why be concerned when purchasing shrimp?
Due to the dredging techniques involved in shrimp
fishing, there are a large number of incidental takes.
(Right) Shrimp harvest off the Pacific Coast of
Costa Rica. Along with the sea horse, there were numerous
crustaceans and deep water gastropod molluscs littering
the decks of this shrimp boat. This photo was taken prior
to the fishermen hosing off the decks to get rid of the 'inedible
catch.'
