 Strongylocentrotus purpuratus
(purple sea urchin)

Developmental sequence from newly fertilized egg to metamorphosis. When larvae are grown at 15 deg C and given plenty of phytoplankton, this process will take approximately four weeks. Our class cultures took approx. 31 days for both Dendraster excentricus (sand dollar) and S. purpuratus.
