SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Over eight years' experience with horses that has included personally owning three horses - responsible for daily care, maintenance, training, exercise, nutrition, and medical treatment.  I hand raised my own foal from birth to her current age of three years, and am now working her under saddle.
  • Served in a voluntary capacity at my boarding facility working with the foals, mares, and yearlings helping with handling, maintenance, training, vet care, and farrier care. Also assisted as needed with a variety of behavioral problems in horses of all ages.
  • Extensive experience in treatment, care, observation, and/or recognition of many medical problems including a variety of cuts and wounds, proud flesh, care for stitches, swelling, bowed tendons, arthritis, stifle injuries, skin disorders, colic, eye infections, colds, and a variety of other medical problems.
  • Have participated in colt-starting and horsemanship clinics including a four-day Ray Hunt colt-starting clinic, and study the methods of many trainers such as Mark Rashid, Buck Brannaman, and John Lyons. Riding experience includes english and western, as well as familiarity with equipment for both disciplines.
  • Stay abreast of equestrian industry news and current events by subscribing to Equus, Horse & Rider, and Horse Illustrated, as well as online discussion groups such as the Natural Horseman list. Also maintain my own horse-related web page at http://home.san.rr.com/klm/lynnster/horsin.html.
  • Volunteered in the Helen Woodward Therapeutic Riding Program, although only briefly due to scheduling conflicts at the time.
  • Excellent skills in the areas of written and oral communication, project management, problem-solving, time management, organization, and leadership abilities through academic and business experience with groups, teams, and supervisory positions I've held.
  • Substantial computer experience, including proficiency with Windows 98, Microsoft Publisher and Office including Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and Access, and Corel WordPerfect, as well as a multitude of other personal computer programs.
  • Experience with HTML and HTML generators, graphics programs, and many facets of web page design and development including promotion, marketing, hosting, domain names, banner exchanges, e-zine advertising, affiliate programs, opt-in marketing, and search engine registration.

    Horse Owner (1994 - 1999)
    Clews Horse Ranch, Del Mar, California
    Duties included care and maintenance of my own mare and her foal, which is now three years old. I have hand raised this foal and personally handled all of her training. She trailers, clips, cross ties, stands quietly for vet and hoof care, and is generally well mannered. Owning and raising horses has given me substantial experience in the areas of ongoing care, maintenance, exercise, training, and nutrition for horses. Extensive and chronic health problems in the mare also provided substantial knowledge and experience in care and treatment of a variety of non-routine medical problems and leg injuries.

    Horse Care Volunteer (1994 - 1999)
    Clews Horse Ranch, Del Mar, California
    Voluntarily assist at our ranch with early training of young horses including initial handling, haltering, leading, grooming, bathing, clipping, exercise, and some colt starting. Also routinely help with farrier and vet handling, as well as the ongoing care and treatment of a variety of injuries in horses of all ages. Have been assigned to work through many behavioral problems in a variety of horses. Have also assisted with breeding and ongoing care of mares in foal, and have attended and assisted in their deliveries.
    Freelance Web Designer & Developer (1999- Current)

    Launched a home-based business to help small- to mid-sized businesses establish and strengthen Internet presence at affordable rates. Specializing in site design, maintenance, graphics, marketing, promotion, and hosting solutions.

    Consultant and Project Manager  (1997 - 1998)
    Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California
    Challenging and demanding Senior Experience project working on four person consulting team for NASA's lead space flight exploration facility. Project entailed thorough investigation of the existing process for moving, adding, and changing telecommunications services. This was a highly technical project requiring extensive knowledge and skills in the areas of telecommunications, networking, and business process reengineering. Project also entailed inventory management issues, and culminated in the delivery of a 176-page report consisting of approximately 30 extensively developed recommendations. Served as project manager and team leader. Our team was recognized with the “Top 3 Outstanding Senior Experience Project” award, which is the most prestigious honor awarded by CSUSM.

    Web Developer  (1998)
    Palomar Mountain Spring Water, Escondido, California
    Demanding independent study project involving development of a WWW site for San Diego area business without prior WWW presence. Scope of work also entailed providing Internet Service Provider and virtual web hosting service recommendations, as well as HTML training for the individual assuming WWW site maintenance responsibilities. Note: Although the site has since been optimized for special effects, the content, general structure, and the organization I created, as well as many of the graphics I developed, have been retained on the new site.

    Web Developer  (1997 - 1998)
    California State University - San Marcos, San Marcos, California
    Served on two-person team that performed a complete redesign of the WWW site for the College of Business Administration’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. Project was undertaken as part of an in-class competition for which our site was selected as the winner and subsequently implemented as the official WWW site for the MBA Program.     Office Manager and Bookkeeper   (1994 -1995)
    Creative Corner, Del Mar, California
    Handled accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, inventory, vendor negotiations, payroll and sales tax filings, banking duties, and all report generation including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and income statements.

    Administrative Assistant  (1984-1990)
    John M. Grubb Realtors, Walnut Creek, California
    Assisted President and Vice President of 220+ agent operation with six branches. Interviewed, hired, trained, and supervised secretarial staff, and oversaw all correspondence, reports, minutes, newspaper and magazine advertising, press releases, meeting arrangements, ordering and contract negotiations for all suppliers, and software training for agents and staff. Consistently negotiated supplier contracts resulting in significant cost savings to the firm.  Developed 300+ page secretarial manual outlining duties, responsibilities, and procedures.  Improved efficiency of many in-house systems.

    Executive Secretary  (1981-1984)

    Provided secretarial services for real estate property managers with 250+ properties including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, rent collection, vendor negotiations, repair coordination and dispatch, property maintenance, credit reports, renter approval, advertising, unlawful detainer and eviction lawsuit preparation and filings, bank account reconciliation, and standard secretarial duties including typing, filing, and telephones.
