Jigs

I've been interested in woodworking for quite awhile, but for a long time I had only a Sears radial arm saw, router, and a dinky router table. I made some small stuff - shelves, clocks, picture frames, CD holders, etc. Then, after years of procrastinating, I took advantage of the great woodworking program at Palomar college and 'kicked it up a notch'.

Cherry Boxes

A couple of variations on a theme. The first box was to store my dial indicator set. This was an interesting exercise in french fitting the various components. Then I used basically the same box construction with dividers for tea bags, to fulfill a Christmas present request. The next year, I made many more...

Planer Stand

Big Yeller Actually Planing A roll around stand for the planer, with drawers for more storage. Folding, micro-adjustable infeed and outfeed tables make planing virtually snipe free. More pictures and construction details on my Shop page.

DVD Video Storage Cabinet

I found a picture that Ann liked, drew up plans, and built it. Craftsman styling and oak goes with our other furniture.
This will hold over 300 DVDs or 150 VHS tapes (in any combination.)

Floor Lamp

A Craftsman style floor lamp.
I built in a three-way power setting so on low it has that warm, traditional look; and on high it's a good reading light.
The amber mica shade material came from Woodworker's Supply

Router Table

I designed and built this trying to incorporate the best ideas from experience, books, and internet sources.
I'm very happy with how it turned out. More pictures and construction details on my Shop page.

Coffee / Game Table

Coffee Table
This coffee table has reversible panels in the top with different game boards. It's made of quarter-sawn white oak and white oak plywood.

I had been wanting to build something like this for years.
Another Picture
Chess
I bought a nice set of chess pieces - I haven't honed my turning or carving skills yet. It took me long enough just to get to making the table!

This board works for checkers, too.
Backgammon
There's backgammon on the other side. The reversible panels are veneers over an MDF core, framed in white oak. The veneers are koa, anigre, and white oak. The checkers came from Rockler, the only place I found that packaged enough for backgammon - plus a spare in each color.
Board Lift
The game board panels need a push from the bottom to lift out.
Lift Mechanism
The internal lift mechanism is activated from the ends of the table by a push bar that slides right underneath the top. It took a couple trys (on models) to get the lever lengths and springs right for a smooth, easy lifting action.
Drawer
There are "hidden" drawers in the aprons on each side to hold all the game pieces.
Go
The game board that many won't recognize is Go - an ancient oriental strategy game.

Here are several pictures of Go games in progress - I got a little carried away...

Clocks, etc.

Mantel Clock A mantel clock. All first semester Palomar students build a clock...

This is pecan and yellowheart with ebony accents.
Rounf wall clock A wall clock, about 12" diameter

Walnut and oak ply.
Includes an 'atomic' movement - synced to WWVB radio
Cutting Boards
Hasn't everyone made cutting boards at some time during their woodworking pursuits?
ButterMeasure
A small kitchen gadget I thought up. We've had a bread machine for years, and I use this little tablespoon measuring stick all the time. The scales printed on the butter sticks are always crooked, and if you cut the paper, it's harder to rewrap the remainder of the stick for storage. There is a different scale on each side, for the two common butter stick sizes.
