F.O.T.N. (Fractal of the Night) 18 Feb 1998 (Distorted Midget in Dr. J's Laboratory)

Peter Jakubowicz wondered what are the freakiest midgets anyone has found. While those in Elephant valley are well known, I asked Dr. J about some of the others. I asked if we could look for a good one in Seahorse valley. He assured me there might be some very deep in his lab beyond the damage from last night blast.  (Dr. J was playing with Kerry Mitchell's Herman rings when just as he tried to take the ring apart ... well you have to see it to believe it.)  Those of you who have been following the saga know about Dr. J's laboratory, and what he calls experiments. These are lined in long rows which seem to stretch off into infinity. He gave us a quick look at the experiment line up the other night. Tonight he promises a close look far down the long row which leads to Seahorse valley.

Oh, I almost forgot. Dr. J is fine, only a little surprised by the explosion which took off a portion of his lab roof.  He grumbles more about the repair costs.

Our first stop is 50 units down the long corridor. I lost count of the number of experiments we passed on the way. But it must have been at least 250. There he stopped and took the first picture, Figure 1.  At first look, these all look alike except for the addition of a branch on each. That is, one on the left, another on the right. So that when we get back to the next on the left, it has two more than its neighbor. The experiments are staggered. Dr. J pointed out some other changes. The spirals turn another notch tighter and the midgets on each branch get another little rotation. And on the long branch aimed toward the lab entrance we find a distorted midget.

The interesting thing I noticed in the close-ups Dr. J sent me was the symmetry between the left and right midgets and their filaments. See Figures 2 and 3. And wow, are these distorted!
