Repairing
chipped or damaged crystal is at least a four step
process.
First, the area is rough ground to the depth of the damage. Second, a
bevel is cut on both the inside and outside of the lip in order to
restore proper shape to the rim. Finally, the last is a two step
process to polish the piece to its original luster. The area that is
damaged must be ground to the level of the chip or crack but the resultant change is "usually"
too slight to notice as most crystal is hand blown and each piece
is slightly different.

Broken pieces can often be bonded back together. Depending upon the piece, there are several types of space age ultra clear polymer resins that we can use for this type of repair. For difficult situations we can use vacuum-degassing technology to pull bonding agents into otherwise inaccessible cracks. Often the resultant repair is barely detectable. The best results require complete and un-chipped pieces. Crystal can be damaged beyond repair. In most cases though, short of catastrophic destruction, some remedy can be found. There
are certain risks involved with crystal repairs. On rare occasions,
during the
repair process, a piece can shatter due to hidden cracks, faults or
internal
stresses. Less than 2 in 1000 pieces are lost during the repair
process, in our
experience.
