We fished the area south of the Hidden Bank with little success. We did find a good number of paddies, but almost all were empty. Lots of bait around them and on the finder. We tried flylining baits, baits on sinkers, irons, slow trolling, all with little success.
We did find one monster paddy, from which we took only one YT and one dorado. This paddy was at 31:54/117:33, in 71 degree water. The other dorado came off a smallish paddy at 32:00/117:28, in 71.5 degree water.
Trolling back to Mission Bay we got a marlin knockdown, but the fish came off immediately. This was at 32:08/117:25, in 72+ degree water.
Nice day on the water, sunny, fairly windy from late morning to mid afternoon. There was a south swell running and a northwest swell, each perhaps 4 feet. But it did not feel like a rough day and the cross swells didn't present any issue.
The radio chatter for the most part of the day reported results similar to ours from all over: boats with nothing, and boats with only a couple of fish. However, around 3pm as we neared home, we heard a few guys talking about taking quantities of fish from paddies. So maybe it was an afternoon bite.
