Recommendations
With the current state of autism services provided by physicians, the following are proposals for early diagnosis and intervention for children with autism:1) 12-month, 18-month, 24-month well-baby checklist
Add the following to well-baby checklist: lack of eye contact, lack of social-relatedness, regression in speech. Also, add a 30-month and 36-month health and developmental check-up.
2) Need for Physicians who specialize in Autism
Every hospital, medical group, medical center, or physician should be able to readily refer the patient to a Physician who specializes in autism spectrum disorders within the area location.
3) Safe Interventions that can lead to recovery
Based on an on-going developmental evaluation of the child, the Autism Physician should be able to recommend safe interventions and therapies for the child with autism through the hospital, health center, school, and/or other agencies.
A proposal to be considered is that the medical community form an international and unified autism spectrum disorder medical association in order for the physicians to develop standard assessment and treatment procedures for autism spectrum disorders. The appropriate agencies of the U.S. & international government, major universities, medical associations, & laboratories are also encouraged to take part in this research.
